Wellness and Prevention
Our veterinary team at Central Animal Hospital are passionate about preventive medicine. Preventive care enables us to avoid potential problems like diseases through vaccinations and preventive medications. A proactive approach to your pet’s health care helps us identify and treat subtle changes before they escalate into significant issues. Here are some of the ways we provide preventive medicine.
Routine bloodwork
When you bring your pet to Central Animal Hospital we will recommend wellness diagnostic blood tests. These include a blood test used to screen for common viral diseases plus heartworm in cats, and a tick screening and heartworm test for dogs. Another recommended test is a senior wellness panel for pets beginning at 7 years of age, which includes a full blood panel, thyroid screening, and testing a urine sample. A senior wellness panel helps us get a baseline on your pet and monitor throughout the aging process to catch any disease processes and intervene with treatments to keep your pet at it’s best.
Wellness exams
Regular wellness exams are key to preventive care. During these checkups, our experienced veterinary staff will evaluate your pet’s overall health. Your veterinarian will provide you with individualized recommendations to ensure your furry companion stays in optimal condition.
Nutrition
Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy pet. We understand how easy it is to over feed your pet, especially when they give you that look! Obesity is a common problem and leads to some serious health issues, including shorter life spans, joint disease and diabetes. Your pet’s nutritional needs change as they age and we are here to help guide you in choosing the right diet throughout their lives.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are critical to protect your pet from numerous infectious diseases. We provide a comprehensive vaccination schedule, tailored to meet the specific needs of your pet throughout their lifetime.
Parasite control
Parasites such as fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites, and heartworm can quickly become severe and even life-threatening health issues for your pet. We provide a wide variety of medications that help prevent diseases caused by these parasites including oral tablets, topical liquids, to injections given at the clinic. We want this to be an easy step in preventive care, so we partner with you about the options to identify the best fit for you and your pet.
