A Keystone of Health
Dental care for dogs and cats.
- The procedure starts with a pre-anesthetic physical exam.
- We run a complete blood panel to evaluate organ function so that our doctors can individually tailor your pet’s anesthetic needs.
- An EKG (electrocardiogram) is performed to make sure your pet’s heart is healthy for anesthetic.
- A veterinary technician is dedicated to your pet’s care for the entire day, including monitoring them while they are anesthetized and during the recovery period.
- A second veterinary technician will act as their dental hygienist, cleaning and polishing their teeth and taking x-rays of their teeth. They will also record any abnormalities seen on a dental chart.
- The doctor will evaluate the x-rays and examine your pet’s mouth. If there are any concerns with their teeth or gums, the doctor will call and discuss recommendations with you.
- Your pet will go home later in the day during a scheduled discharge appointment, where we will review the dental chart and x-rays with you. We will also discuss any special care they need.
