Emergency Care

We understand that emergencies happen during and outside regular business hours, and Central Animal Hospital is here for our clients during these times of need.

Slide A Group Effort We have joined forces with Hillside Animal Hospital and Thompson Animal Medical Center to provide after-hours emergency service. The three clinics have a rotating schedule that ensures your pet will continue to have access to excellent after-hours emergency care. Since all three clinics are AAHA accredited veterinary practices, you can expect the same high standards of care for your furry family member.

If your pet does not receive routine care at Central Animal Hospital, we recommend contacting your primary veterinarian to collect guidance on emergency care.

Slide Who Do You Call? You will continue to call Central Animal Hospital for your pet's medical emergency. If your call is after regular business hours, please follow the prompts to get in touch with the doctor.

If your pet's after-hours emergency occurs when one of the other cooperating clinics is responsible for taking the call, that doctor will arrange to meet you at the clinic from which they work. Hillside Animal Hospital is located on W5706 State Highway 33 in La Crosse and Thompson Animal Medical Center is located on 4540 Mormon Coulee Road in La Crosse.

Slide How Do You Pay? The three cooperating clinics only have a slight variance in fees, so the cost difference will be minimal. As always, payment is due at the time of service, and those fees will be payable to the clinic that sees your pet.

All three clinics accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, and Care Credit for payment.

Slide What happens after your pet's medical emergency? Because this is a cooperative agreement between the participating clinics, your pet's follow-up care and all the records of their emergency visit will be electronically transferred back to Central Animal Hospital when the clinic opens on the next business day. These records of their emergency visit will be uploaded into their medical file here and will be available for future reference.

If our pet needs recheck exams or additional follow up visits because of an emergency, those visits will be done at Central Animal Hospital.

It is important to us that your pets continue to have access to exceptional care, even when we are not open. Our colleagues at Hillside Animal Hospital and Thompson Medical Center agree, and together we are committed to ensuring that we can continue to provide the best care possible.
