Central Animal Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. The story of Central Animal Hospital began in 1978 when Dr. Richard Stelmach purchased Van Wyk Animal Hospital and renamed it Central Animal Hospital. The clinic was originally located on the Causeway in La Crosse, WI. In 1987 Dr. Stelmach moved the clinic to its present location at 840 2nd Avenue South in Onalaska, WI. Dr. Douglas Kratt purchased Central Animal Hospital from Dr. Stelmach in 1998. Under Dr. Kratt’s direction Central Animal Hospital continues to strive to better serve you and your pet. The doctors and staff are committed to staying current with modern advancements in veterinary medicine because your pet’s care is our primary concern.

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with veterinarians in the surrounding communities when advanced surgeries, treatments, or diagnostic procedures are required. Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house digital radiology and ultrasonography capabilities, and digital dental radiology. We also offer indoor boarding kennels with bedding and food provided. All animals are leashed walked by caring staff members three times per day.

At Central Animal Hospital we strive to offer optimal veterinary care and abundant educational resources, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for years to come. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn’t feeling well, but also to help you keep your best friend happy and healthy.

Central Animal Hospital joins the many great volunteers in the Coulee Region in their effort to better our community in a number of different ways. Learn more about how we support this fantastic place we all call home.
